Have you seen this?
Advent Conspiracy
Because you really really should.
Thoughts? Because I'm really wanting to discuss the four points in this clip in a very bad way.... (tomorrow).

I loved this. What a great way to send out an important message. I'm donating to the food bank this year. They need it.

I liked the message as it is a reminder of what the season really is about. However, we need to be doing things for others all year and not just at this season. Robbie

Last year I tried VERY VERY hard to convince my sons to do this very thing. Presents for the 2 little people-4 & 11, than take the money you would have spent on me and each other and give "Christmas" to a deserving family in our area. I was appalled by their response. We're talking grown men for crying out loud. Food for the Poor and Mercy Corps send a catalog of wonderful things you can buy for others- a goat for a village, chickens, books for a school year, etc. I pass them on to them with what I WANT circled-no go.
So what can we do to change this? I'm with 100%

I hear you Beth. I'm lucky that my whole family is 100% on board with this (and was even before seeing the video). But I also have friends who have met with resistance.
It's funny... even posting this blog entry provoked a variety of reactions. While few posted here, I got SEVERAL emails and one-on-one conversations about this post... they ranged from "thanks so much for posting because I agree" to full-on defensiveness about individual habits.
I want to note that I do not judge any of my friends for what they choose to do at this time of year... I'm merely stating what I'm doing. And I have to say, not having to deal with the consumerist frenzy at the mall has been liberating. I also am lucky that I don't have "wee ones" to directly buy for - I would never take away their holiday joy.

I apologize for being slow. Just got to watch this, and I'd be interested in talking about it more when I'm up to visit.
